With the Indian economy growing year by year, the target of providing reliable power supply to consumers becoming increasingly important. To meet the challenge, new distribution substation are being added to, and distribution networks are continuously being strengthened. As you know, the Distribution Transformer is one of the most important and vital asset in a substation. Reliability and Availability of such assets a Distribution Transformer Plays an important role in the operation of a Substation. Emphasis needs to be laid on Testing, Commissioning and Protection of such assets for Long life as well as reliable operation. The review of protection philosophy further improves performance of the system. Apart from basic lapses during designing and manufacturing of equipments, the major causes of failures of equipment are the incorrect process and procedures followed during erection and commissioning. Forced tripping of transformers not only inconvenience to the customers but also revenue loss to Discom. We trust that this training programme would cover the existing knowledge gap on this subject and help practicing engineers in Distribution sector as well as consultants, students in the technical institution in enhancing their technical skills.
