Rapid urbanization, population growth, and changing consumption patterns have significantly increased the generation of solid waste, posing serious environmental and climate challenges. Inefficient waste management practices contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane from landfills, thereby accelerating climate change. Integrating sustainable solid waste management practices is essential not only for environmental protection but also for climate change mitigation and adaptation. This programme focuses on modern, climate-responsive waste management strategies, including waste minimization, resource recovery, circular economy approaches, and low-carbon technologies. It aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and tools to design and implement resilient and sustainable solid waste management systems in urban and semi-urban contexts
