Introduction
Sanitation denotes preventing people from coming into contact with wastes by providing facilities and services for the treatment and disposal of human excreta and other liquid wastes produced in homes, workplaces and public buildings.
Waste management is the collection, treatment and scientifically disposal of wastes produced in the home, workplace and public buildings.
All wastes of various types; need to be controlled and managed for the benefit of people and the environment that they live in. In urban areas where people live close together and space can be limited, managing these wastes is a difficult problem. The main objective of a Sanitation system protects and promote human health by providing a clean environment and breaking the cycle of disease. In order to be sustainable, a sanitation system has to be not only economically viable, socially acceptable, and technically and institutionally appropriate, it should also protect the environment and the natural resources. “If handled properly, waste management has huge potential to turn problems into solutions and to lead the way towards sustainable sanitation system through the recovery and reuse of valuable resources; the creation of new business and employment opportunities, including for the informal sector and reduced emissions of toxic gases. Access to potable water, proper sanitation, and hygiene have become global concerns. This programme highlights on the sanitation and waste management practices and the best possible implications towards safe and clean environment and its sustainability.
